Unstring a bow and the string has two ways to go wrong: it slides off the tip and unwinds its twists, or it wanders off in the bow bag and turns up a week later. The Solkarra Leather String Keeper stops both. The gum leaf cap slips over the top limb tip with the string loop still inside it, the elastic cord runs down the belly of the limb, and the arrow button passes through the string loop lower down and locks it in place. The string stays on the bow, the twists stay in the string, and your brace height is where you left it next time you string up.
Bovine leather gives the cap a fuller, firmer body. The tan grain side faces out and the suede reverse faces in, so the cap grips the limb tip rather than sliding on it, and the leather will take on colour and character the more it is used. It is the everyday keeper: sturdy, warm to look at and easy on the bow.
Every keeper is handmade in Western Australia from Australian leather, stitched by hand along the leaf and finished with a black elastic cord and an engraved arrow button. The leaf is cut generously and the elastic takes up the rest, so one size suits recurves, longbows and horse bows alike, and the soft leather will not mark a finished limb.
