Our story
Why an archer in Western Australia started Asiatic Bows Australia
G’day, I’m Tom. I started this shop because no one in Australia was dedicated to Asiatic archery, and I wanted to buy these bows here.
I’ve lived with rheumatoid arthritis since childhood, and later FND. Archery is one of the few sports I can keep up. On a good day I shoot 300 to 400 arrows; on the days I can’t, I fletch arrows and make strings.

Choosing a draw weight without buying too heavy
The most common mistake we see is a first bow that is too heavy. It feels strong in the shop and tiring by the tenth arrow, and your form never settles.
Start lighter than you think. Weights here are measured at 28 inches, and most of us draw an Asiatic bow further than that, so the bow will feel a few pounds heavier in your hands.
| Archer | Start at |
|---|---|
| Junior | 15# to 20# |
| New shooters | 15# to 30# |
| Experienced | 30# to 45# |
| Experienced+ | 45# and up |
On a thumb ring, take 5# off the top of the range. Unsure? Text us your draw length and we’ll tell you what we’d pick.
