How to String your Asiatic Bow
This is the step-through method from our video, the way we string our own bows. Watch it once, then follow the five steps with the bow in your hands.
Stringing an Asiatic bow in five steps
- Seat the bottom loop. Put the string’s bottom loop in the nock groove at the very tip of the lower siyah, and slide the top loop a little way down the upper limb.
- Step through. Step between the bow and the string, so the string is in front of your body and the bow is behind your leg. Brace the lower siyah against the ankle of your front foot.
- Grip behind the knee. Put the grip behind the knee of your other leg. The ankle and the knee hold the bow still while you bend it.
- Push the top limb forward. Use the palm of your hand on the upper limb and push it forward. Push straight, and never twist the limbs.
- Seat the top loop and check both ends. Slide the top loop up into the nock groove at the very tip of the upper siyah. Check that both loops sit fully in their grooves before you ease off.
How a strung bow should look
The string is one straight line from tip to tip. Each loop sits in the groove at the very end of its siyah, and the string runs down beside the siyah and rests over the small string bridge at its base. Seen from the side, both limbs curve back the same amount at the top and the bottom. If a limb looks twisted or the string sits off the bridge, ease off, unstring the bow and start again.
